Induction motor
An induction motor is a rotating magnetic field type AC motor which uses the electromagnetic induction
phenomenon.
The following are the three basic structures, but the cage type induction motor at (3) is the most commonly used
AC motor. The shaded-pole type rotated by single phase alternating current is the most simply structured cage
type.
(1) Solid-steel type:
The surface of the cylindrical laminated rotor is coated with about 0.5 mm of a copper or aluminum cylinder.
(2) Surface-conductor type, eddy-current motor:
Simply a cylindrical rotor made from mild steel. This is the simplest structure among all motors.
