Alnico magnet
Alnico is an acronym, it refers to a family of iron alloys which along with iron include a high percentage of aluminium* (Al), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). Alnico magnets may also contain titanium and copper. Alnico magnets are used to make permanent magnets and before the discovery of rare earth magnets, were the strongest type of magnet available.
*aluminum is acceptable as an American spelling.
