Environmental Performance 2020
Every three years since FY2004, Nidec has been making and promoting a mid-term environmental conservation plan, and launched a Sixth Mid-term Environmental Conservation Plan in FY2019.
The Plan, which has new areas of activities, i.e., increasing renewable energy ratio and recycle and reuse of resources, in addition to the existing activity of reducing environmental load, targets to reduce the total average volume of greenhouse gases (CO2), electricity, water drainage, and waste disposal of the three-year period from FY2019 - FY2021 from the FY2018 results.
- Greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions: Down 10%
- Use of fossil fuel-originated electricity: Down 10%
- Use of renewable energy-originated electricity: Up 15 points
- Water drainage: Down 7%
- Total waste disposal volume: Down 5%
Past environmental performance
Nidec’s total emissions in FY2020 decreased approximately 31% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to the decrease in the use of electricity and gasoline with more employees working from home, fewer business trips being made, etc. |
Nidec’s total electricity usage in FY2020 decreased approximately 20% mainly from the FY2019 levels due to an increase in the number of employees working from home as COVID-19 infections spread. |
|
Nidec’s total water drainage volume in FY2020 decreased approximately 5% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to an increase in the number of employees working from home as COVID-19 infections spread. |
Nidec’s final waste disposal volume in FY2020 decreased approximately 40% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to an increase in the number of employees working from home as COVID-19 infections spread. |
Nidec’s total emissions in FY2020 decreased approximately 11% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to a decrease in the use of electricity and fuel in production processes amid a decrease in our factories’ operation rates, and also due to the introduction of renewable energy-derived electricity at those factories. |
Nidec’s total electricity usage in FY2020 decreased approximately 5% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to a decrease in our factories’ operation rates amid the spread of COVID-19 infections. |
|
Nidec’s total water drainage volume decreased approximately 11% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to a decrease in water use in production processes as our factories’ operation rates decreased. |
Nidec’s final waste disposal volume in FY2020 decreased approximately 7% from the FY2019 levels mainly due to a decrease in paper use and an increase in recycling rate at our factories. |
Number of business sites covered in the environmental conservation plan
The sixth three-year medium-term environmental conservation plan covers companies that were part of the Nidec Group as of the base year of FY2018.
Number of business sites covered in the environmental conservation plan
