Pottery class to prevent dementia

Since 2013, Nidec Drive Technology has been working with Nagaoka Health Center (Nagaoka Hospital) to hold a pottery class to prevent dementia annually. Pottery is known to be effective in prevention and rehabilitation of dementia, and Nagaoka Health Center has long been using pottery as part of its treatment of dementia patients. On the other hand, Nidec Drive Technology, a company with a large market share with its electronic potter’s wheels, had long been wanting to support those addressing social issues via business to help enhance society’s and its own sustainability. Thus, the company’s labor union proposed to the hospital to hold a pottery class, which has been held for more than 10 years so far.

In the class, students also learn the motors that Nidec develops to protect the global environment, and they are offered an opportunity to think with Nidec employees what we can do to conserve the environment.
