Nidec Instruments Develops Multifunctional Card Reader for Amusement Facilities

Nidec Instruments Corporation (“Nidec Instruments” or the “Company”), a group company of Nidec Corporation, announced today that it has developed a multifunctional card reader.

Nidec Instruments has developed this new product mainly for, among others, slot machines and cash-converting terminals in domestic and overseas amusement facilities. As the Company has been enjoying a high market share of card readers for amusement facilities and gaming machines, it has been faced with the need for NFC-based IC communications with players cards and smartphones, and for Bluetooth-based connections with smartphones.

Nidec Instruments’ latest card reader, which is capable of handling magnetic data, NFC- and Bluetooth-based communications, and reading QR codes, serves as the industry-first all-in-one unit.

In addition, being compatible with Nidec Instruments’ existing card readers currently on sale, this product can be added to those readers without changing their designs. With LED lights on its card slot, the card reader can, for amusement purposes, flash lights in a variety of colors while reading a card.
