10 Trillion Yen - Net Sales Target
Nidec aims for net sales of 10 trillion yen in FY2030. Here is our growth strategy to achieve our targets
Looking ahead 100 years into the future
Understanding the changes of the times to keep growing
Four big waves of change and business opportunities brought about by social issues
In the 40 years since its establishment in 1973, Nidec has become a company with over 1 trillion yen in net sales.
We achieved dramatic growth in response to the spread of personal computers in the late 1990s.
Currently, we are experiencing four waves of change, due to global warming, a declining labor force and other social issues.
Aiming for net sales of 10 trillion yen in FY2030, we intend to seize the business opportunities arising from these changes.
How will Nidec respond to these changes and grow?
We will introduce some scenarios below
1. Growth of electric and smart vehicles
Motors that will power the vehicles of the future
The Paris Agreement prompted various countries to release restrictions on the production and sales of gasoline vehicles.
Electric vehicles running on motors are expected to replace gasoline vehicles. Having manufactured vehicle motors and gained the top market share in the world for its electric power steering motors, Nidec also aims to acquire a high share for traction motors, another core component of electric vehicles.
We also have high hopes that—with their lower environmental impact, higher accessibility for the elderly, and smaller sizes—smart vehicles will gain in popularity.
It is not an exaggeration to say that motors will carry the future of vehicles
2. Growth of energy-saving appliances
Motors will control the energy use of IoT-enabled appliances
Already on the rise, energy-saving appliances are expected to adopt cordless, IoT and other high-performance technologies more rapidly, leading to even higher demand.
As appliances become more performant, the demand for our high-efficiency, high-performance brushless DC motors is growing year by year.
Motors that control power consumption by households will help to reduce power consumption globally and combat global warming
3. Rapid expansion of the robot market
High hopes for collaborative robot as a new labor force
Countries like Japan and China are suffering from a serious lack of workers due to their declining labor forces.
As a result, collaborative robots—that work together with people—are entering various commercial fields (food industry and services) and industrial areas (plants).
These robots require advanced control technology—for both performance and safety reasons.
Nidec will leverage its resources in pursuit of global-pioneering products and technology developments.
4. Agricultural innovation/logistics revolution
Industrial drones will resolve the labor shortage issue
We anticipate that drones will be a solution to issues like the decline in the number of farmers, the aging of depopulated areas, and the increase in distribution volumes due to the online shopping boom.
A June 2018-released multi-rotor, developed by Yamaha Motor as an industrial drone specialized in pesticide spraying, uses one of Nidec’s compact, lightweight, and high-performance motors.
Demand should grow for this important tool, as it will support the future of agriculture by reducing the burden of labor shortage-struck farmers.
While drones show great potential for logistics and agriculture, they also require even more compact and lighter high-performance motors and motor modules.
We will use our strong technological capabilities to expand drones’ capacities.
