Revolving field (Rotating field)
A revolving field (or rotating field) is a magnetic field that has moving polarities, where opposing poles rotate about a central point or axis. Ideally the rotation takes place at a constant angular rate for the conventional synchronous motor, but in modern brushless motors with distributed windings and inverter-driven induction motors the revolving speed of the magnetic field is variable.
