Brushless DC motor
A brushless DC motor is an improved DC motor developed by removing the brushes from a DC motor to eliminate shortcomings such as brush wear and electrical noise. The picture in (a) shows a brushless DC motor from the 1970s. Unlike current designs it is difficult to distinguish the shape of the rotor and windings from those of a hysteresis motor. In current designs concentrated windings, such as those shown in picture (b), are used.
