Glossary of Motor Terms
Aligned
This term is used to describe the operating principle of a double salient pole type motor (SR motor). Both the stator core and the rotor core have a simple salient pole structure, and the winding inductance is a function of the rotation angle of the rotor. In the figure below, the two coils of each phase are connected, so as to generate different magnetic poles. In fig. (a), the two coils of phase A are excited to generate a magnetic field, and the associated two teeth align with the nearest of the four salient poles of the rotor. At this time, the inductance of the winding becomes the maximum Lmax. (b) is the opposite state of alignment and is in a state of unstable equilibrium.
